As councilman, I introduced electric police bicycles to increase officer presence and engagement in neighborhoods, secured leaf collection trucks to keep our city clean, and improved safety lighting under key underpasses. I also partnered with DeKalb County to bring fire safety resources and free smoke alarms to residents — especially our youth and seniors — and supported mental health awareness by bringing the NAMI 5K to Assembly Atlanta.
I have also worked on progressive public safety reforms, including policies to decriminalize marijuana possession under certain amounts—shifting penalties from felonies to misdemeanors and fines.
In addition, in May, 2023, I collaborated on City of Doraville Co-Responder Program. This program consisted of a partnership between the City of Doraville, City of Dunwoody, and the Dekalb County Community Services Board . The goal of this program is to have law enforcement respond with behavioral health professionals on emergency calls involving behavioral health crises in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and link the individuals going through crisis with proper services.
